The challenge

Both organisations run mission-critical, around-the-clock operations and wanted a clear picture of each asset class, so maintenance and investment could be planned ahead rather than in reaction to failures.

What was delivered

  • Reviewed the as-installed state on site to confirm what assets existed, their condition and function
  • Reviewed asset criticality, function and purpose, maintenance practices, contracts and failure history to set the right strategy for each asset
  • Analysed demand and capacity against growth forecasts to set clear trigger points for upgrades
  • Modelled whole-of-life costs to build long-term capital plans and 1, 5 and 10-year programs
  • Worked with operations, maintenance, finance and project teams so each plan reflects how the asset is used
  • Produced a complete AMP for each asset class, covering the assets, service levels, risks, costs and investment plan

Business purposeAMPs based on criticality, function, condition, risk and vulnerability, and operational requirements, not just a standard 20-year life.

The outcome

A complete AMP for each asset class: what the business owns, the condition it is in, what it will cost to maintain and renew, and when to invest. Capital programs moved from reactive requests to planned, evidence-based investment.
