The challenge
The club had been at capacity since 2016 and needed a building three times the size. We worked with the club over several years to secure federal and Council funding, only for all three design & construct tenders to come in well over budget as construction costs climbed after COVID.
What was delivered
- End-to-end project delivery, from concept, design and tender to construction and handover
- The funding application that secured $978,700 through the Australian Government Northern Australia Business & Community Growth Program
- The presentation and pitch to Cairns Regional Council that increased its funding from $750,000 to $911,312
- Value management with the preferred builder, bringing the design and cost back within the available funding
- Contract administration as Superintendent through to the end of the defects period, with drone progress records
- Management of all federal grant and Council funding obligations and requirements, including reporting
$472Ktaken out of the tender price through value management, without losing what the club needed.
The outcome
Completed in September 2023, on time, within the available funding and in line with all funding guidelines and requirements. The club now has an international-standard, high-performance training venue.
