The challenge

Council wanted a new nature play area in the Warrina Lakes Community Parklands, Stage 3 of the parklands master plan. Funded through the Queensland Government's Works for Queensland program, it had to reflect what the community asked for, fit around the existing pavilion, pump track and mature trees, and be delivered within the program's funding and timeframes.

What was delivered

  • Delivered by Glenn during his time with The APP Group
  • Project Manager for Council, from concept design through to handover
  • Community consultation, and a design built around what the community asked for
  • Coordination with Council teams and stakeholders, keeping the works in line with the master plan
  • Superintendent and Contract Administrator on Council's behalf
  • Day-to-day management of the contractor on site, keeping the works safe and the park open to the public through the wet season
  • Regular drone progress photos for Council throughout construction

The outcome

The nature play area opened in 2024, giving local families an enchanted palm forest, a fort with a talking tube, slides, timber steppers, balance beams and a climbing net, set in native gardens next to the parklands' wetlands walk and pump track.
